Weekend Reads: College Visits, Spring Style Finds & Nordstrom Beauty Sale

Shutterstock

Raines has to pick a college before the end of April, and that seems to be especially tricky for a kiddo who has no idea what he wants to do or where he wants to go. So he and I have been doing some college visits this month, and I think it’s been good for both of us. He’s starting to be able to picture himself on a college campus (something that is 180 degrees different from when we started this process), and I get to watch him realize this.

I could literally watch this movie all day, Guys. On repeat.

Two Becca Swimsuits I love: I just ordered this one (it’s totally my vibe)…but this pretty little white one is such a perfect combo of sweet & sexy. Soooo good.

New arrival sneak peek: I’ve tried a LOT of Turkish towels (we typically go to Turkey every other year), and we just found the absolute best: Oysters & Lemons…or Stripes. Ferzan, the woman who started this company, was born & raised in Istanbul, and these are 100% the real deal – she just wanted to create authentic Turkish towels with fresh, modern designs. These are also a little thicker than most Turkish towels sold stateside, and incredibly soft. Like most brands in the region, Ferzan is dealing with some supply disruptions, so we stocked as many as she had, actually. Good luck (haha).

My favorite foundation right now is actually SPF (and is on sale at Nordstrom if you’d like to try). I wear the color, ‘medium’.

Actually, Nordstrom is having a huge beauty sale…here’s a peek at what’s currently in my cart:

  • The best body cream I’ve found (especially for crepey knees)
  • The only eyeshadow I travel with (in ‘les jours’)
  • The clean-beauty contour set I wear everyday, no foundation required (‘radiant’ is good for cooler skin tones like mine)
  • Charlotte Tilbury’s Flawless Filter – I wear this instead of foundation for going out at night and it is…transformative. I typically wear a 3.5 shade, but it’s pretty foolproof – I often slather this on friends when they need a quick makeup look for night and everyone is shocked by the results: glowy skin, a fully rested look. Dupes are out there…but this is a pretty singular product. I love it.

Which denim dress? This stunning midi or this flirty mini? (In black.) Both are currently in my cart…aaaand on sale for under $100, so.

Crocs? (OK I know but hear me out): Abby posted these stunning, minimalist Ref sandals in bright blue and I can’t stop thinking about them (I actually own them in black and they’re great). That said…DSW recently sent over this pair of Crocs (in tan) and they’re shockingly comfortable, but I juuuuust noticed that they also come in the same bright blue. For such a fun, try-me-out color…the $39 Crocs might be the better bet.

Longline gem. I had bought that longline denim coat from Sezane a couple of years ago (similar to this new one) and it’s still going strong. So much so that I just ordered another longline jacket but in leather. This longer, sleek silhouette seems to work really well with baggy jeans, wide-leg jeans, flares, those Audrey-Hepburn-inspired cropped straight-leg jeans, as well as a ton of dresses (I demonstrated a bunch of these silhouettes, here).

Restocked: Mother Shrub. For those of you who have been asking! Also, if anyone has a mocktail recipe they like using these, let me know. I’ve just been mixing mine with sparkling water – it’s delicious, but I want to mix it up.

I just ordered these stunning jeans in ‘cloudy colorblock’. Expensive, but one of my all-time favorite styles…and they finally went 25% off.

How do we feel about GAP’s culottes? I think….I think I’m in.

If culottes are too scary, these denim bermuda shorts (also from GAP) got a ton of wear last summer. I bought them several sizes (like, 2-3 sizes) big, and they’re great.

Stupid questions. Anyone else have trouble sleeping? (ha…ha….ha) We’ve been traveling a bit lately, and not only am I having a harder time with jetlag, but sleeping anywhere than my own bed is tough (and guys, I’m a shit sleeper, even at home). Anyway, I was whining about this at work the other day, and Jeni mentioned that she takes these CBD gummies because they’ve been more effective than melatonin. I am SO intrigued. If nothing else, I might grab some for travel. And, uh…throw this chocolate bar into my cart while I’m there. It’s anti-anxiety chocolate that helps with focus, so obviously I need it for work.

Such a bummer!! We just heard that the brand Areaware is closing its doors. Areaware makes those seriously beautiful bottle openers that have become my go-to gifts. They’re so incredibly well-made and one of those sneaky home items that people always remark on. So if you want one, don’t wait – we won’t be able to restock these.

OH, MY HEART. We partnered with Burt’s Bees Baby recently (and by ‘we’ I suspect it was Gwen and Aliya who were like Oooo…YES) and curious…I clicked over to see what was going on. Guys. The level of nostalgia brought about by these baby pajamas is off the charts. I literally(!!) feel like I got punched in the stomach. If you need a gift for someone with a baby, I bring you…FLUFFY PANCAKES. I KNOW. There’s also – sob! – birthday cake. And there’s a whole other mommy-and-me section that sent me into a spiral. Like seriously, if you have a teen graduating this year, just, uh, step away NOW. I mean…breakfast in bed. WAAHHH.

Ok, now I’m going to go look through old photos and cry.
