Soooo…here’s something kind of cool: the brother of one of our very dear friends happens to be running for Congress. My buddy, Joe, grew up in Oklahoma (and has some seriously funny stories omg), before eventually ending up in Philly. And his older brother – John Croisant, who still lives back home – announced his bid for a US House seat a while back. I can’t remember exactly when Joe first mentioned it, but I do remember that Joe was clearly so proud of his big brother and a little incredulous – his brother is running as a Democrat and their district, is, uh, very strongly Republican (to put it mildly). They haven’t elected a Democrat since the early 80’s.
The election is on Nov 3, and guys….the Republicans are nervous. Trump recently threw his support behind the other guy, so they must be feeling the pressure from Joe’s brother. Which, honestly, they should. Joe is one heck of a great dude, and his brother is legit. John was a teacher who taught in some of the most disadvantaged public schools in the country, and has been on the school board for the last 6 years. According to Joe, John decided to run after the freaking draconian cuts to public schools from Trump’s admin came down. John’s big focus is education – for all kids – and we’ve been cheering him on in the background all year. It’s so wildly exciting that someone so deserving might actually pull this thing off. We don’t have a big reader base in Oklahoma (haha no one is surprised), but if you guys want to chip in a few $$ to help flip a house seat, I can personally vouch for John Croisant.
ps. That pic is from a couple of years ago, when Joe & fam came up to visit us in Vermont. It was his daughters’ first time seeing real snow (which was pretty magical to watch), and you can’t tell in this photo….but Joe was wearing the only shoes he brought: mesh tennis shoes. Awe. Bless his big ‘ol heart.
The best basic layer: Eileen Fisher Silk Curved V-Neck Tank. Annoyingly expensive, but it is, actually, freaking perfect. It’s made from 100% silk, B-Corp certified, and has a flawless cut. The neckline is low enough to look cool (but high enough to not worry about), and the boxy shape is short without being cropped. I can happily wear this top tucked or un-tucked! The navy looks like it’s on sale at Bloomingdales.
My most worn pants this week: GAP’s, in gray pinstripe. Been wearing it with one of my old Re/Done graphic tees (this new style is my latest obsession – it’s me, 100%) and these ridiculously comfy flats – with a supportive cork footbed and everything (in ivory).
Ok, Rothy’s. Their new shearling-lined clogs look seriously cute – Laura’s been raving about hers. The porcini or olive colors look especially good – they’re both so sweater-knit cute, and their bottoms almost look like…tortoiseshell? LOVE.
I’d fancy up a t-shirt with this fringed midi skirt. Nordstrom’s in-house brand makes really good ones (I have that exact skirt in black lace), and it would be so cute with tall black boots, heels, or flats.
The freaking CUTEST winter boots: From UGG, but they look a little like Mou boots, too.
Everyone I know swears by Uniqlo’s Heattech all winter…but by the time I even consider a purchase (usually January, haha) it’s completely sold out. Anyway, they just came out with an extra-warm cashmere blend that also looks nice and thin. I might try this long sleeve top and leggings to see if they’d actually be comfortable under jeans and a sweater (that top has to be cute enough on its own, too – I’m encouraged that the ivory looks a little sheer. Hmmm. Still ordering the black, tho.)
Oooo….GUCCI’s new, holiday-edition lipstick does NOT disappoint. What a chic little gift.
How do we feel about shearling-lined ballet flats? Miu Miu started it…but then UGG ruined it. Genuinely awful. But…this Larroude pair looks seriously cute on (much more similar to Miu Miu) and now there’s this Coach pair, too. I think…I think I might wear the heck outta these. Not in deep snow, mind you, but I’d wear them allllll Fall, even when the weather starts to turn.
I have a vision: I keep wanting to figure out some sort of icy, beautiful, colorful smokey eye for holiday parties. I’ve been so happy with Ogee’s lid sculpt that I just ordered this blue as the base – it stays put better than anything else I’ve tried. I need something a little darker to really oomphf it up for night (and I have plenty of navy shadows I’m going to try)…but this sort of deep gray-blue is also calling my name. I think they could look really pretty together. And then voila: these earrings.
Any new mamas out there? This fleece jacket with a baby-wearing panel looks just like the one I had wanted for years, but couldn’t justify the price back then. Now H&M is doing it (18 years too late for me, haha) but this one is under $100.
Already? Our holiday shop will be launching officially late Sunday night, but we’re…basically ready now. We’ve been rolling products out for the last few weeks, and I can’t believe that our flower press kits – and the keychain versions – are almost completely sold out already. I had a hunch that they’d make perfect stocking stuffers (or any sort of cute little gift). They’re made by a husband-and-wife team, too. So cute.
One more: we found one last silver locket.
